What is a Volvo Truck Key?

Ignition Key
The ignition key is the mechanical component that turns the vehicle on. The ignition key also opens the trunk and doors. Certain keys can be used for additional purposes like a panic button, trunk release, liftgate release, or tailgate release.
The blade of the key can cause problems. A locksmith that is registered with Volvo can cut a new key for you. They can do this most often without a car.
Certain Volvo keys have special features, such as restricted or red keys. The way the car was delivered to the factory determines what features are available. A dealer can order a service to disable the restricted key function. The dealer can accomplish this for you using VIDA. You can do it yourself, if you have all the necessary software and tools.
The key fobs are red or orange in color. The shells of these keys can be removed before they can be used on another vehicle. Keys can be programmed by the dealer or you. There is no "virginizing" needed with Volvo key fobs.
Remote Key
The remote key lets you open the doors and start the car. It can also control the locks and activate/deactivate some functions, like panorama roofs or power windows. MAN truck key comes with a restricted function that disables motion sensing*. You can purchase this feature either from your Volvo-certified dealer (you require proof of ownership) or a Volvo-certified locksmith. The key is marked orange or red. The key shell release slider is the same as the color, so swapping a new key blade with a used shell won't change the functionality.
Programming (adding) an additional remote is easy, just follow VIDA's instructions. It doesn't need to be an "virgin" key either. Sit in the driver's seat, with the door shut and press the lock button on your new remote and the side marker light will blink indicating the key has been programmed.
Keyless Entry Key
A single press of the keyless entry button locks the car and triggers the alarm. A long press shuts all windows and panoramic roof*. The key has a small button cell battery. The dealer can cut you a new keyless entry key, or a locksmith registered with Volvo could also. They can also program your Volvo keys. You can swap the shells of the key fob, and it will function with the other shells.
Key Fob
A key fob is a component of the VOLVO key that has keyless entry and lock functions. It also comes with a panic button that will activate the alarm inside the vehicle. The key fob has the ability to shut your windows, or open the panoramic roof*. The key fob is housed inside a plastic shell that matches your car's color and features silver buttons, you can switch the shells between keys and the function will be the same.
A dealer can cut you the replacement blade you need for your key fob. A Volvo-registered locksmith can also perform this, but will require proof of ownership. You can also utilize blank keys to copy the emergency blade. However, you'll have to program the key via VIDA to make it work inside your vehicle.
